Once a year my life has a consuming focus - my restoration and conservation workshop.
It all started in 200-something when I had the idea to write a book. Camille Cognac’s book Quilt Restoration had been out of print for a while, and no one else had stepped up to replace it. I had been doing this work about 30 years and was loving it. My BA had been in archeology, and quilt repair continued my love of “old things” and the people who made and used them. I decided I had enough experience and knowledge to share what I’d been learning. It just didn’t make sense to learn so much and not pass it on.

You need to understand that this kind of courage is not in my usual skill set. I’m still not sure I understand where it came from, I just knew it was something I wanted to do.
There’s soooooo much more to learn and do to publish a book than I’d ever expected, but at the end of 2013, I became a book author.

One of the friends I made via selling the book was Martha Spark, also a quilt restorer. We hatched the idea of this workshop and set up the structure and content. Like the book, the goal was to share knowledge, help mend and preserve more precious quilt history, and honor and enjoy the work of our quilt ancestors.
The premier session was scheduled for July 2020, and, well, you can figure out how went that went. We spent another while restructuring and learning about the virtual world. And now, I’m about to host the 7th go-round!
My video “studio”!

I really enjoy these gatherings. I’ve met great quilt lovers, seen the quilts that they love, explored the quilt world through great conversations.
If you’re interested in joining in this year, you can read all the details on my website at

Of course, I’m happy to answer any questions about content and logistics.
