This is an important week for me. An art quilt I completed about a year ago has gone off into the world to its first show. I worked on it for a long time and it carries a message that I feel very strongly.
The show is called Sacred Threads. Links to info on the exhibit are at the end of this post. It runs October 30 - November 9, in Indianapolis, IN, showing quilts which express the sacred world of emotions and deep beliefs.

The story of creating the quilt is on my blog, from inspiration to loads of design and technical decisions and finally to the sewing which brings the concept to reality.

I’ll reproduce here the words I recorded to be played on the exhibit audio tour:
“I am a woman of European descent, born and raised along the shores of Lake Michigan. I have a degree in anthropology and archeology, which has taught me the beauty and value of living in a multi-cultural world. I am more and more sure that the wisdom held by indigenous elders and teachers around the world is key to our future, and I am grateful to them for speaking out. They are all telling us to honor the planet herself and also all the beings who live here with us. Our “western” culture, as it is generally called, has long abused and claimed ownership of all of Life, with a capital L. The planet is alive. The planet is beautiful. The planet is generous. The planet needs us to acknowledge that we are a part of Life with a capital L. We need to “Be of the Planet”, as Gaia is saying on my quilt.”
I would love to hear from you with your impressions, responses, feelings, etc. about the quilt. What does it say to you?
