Hi, everyone!

• Here’s a quick reminder that my virtual quilt restoration and conservation workshop starts soon, January 31 to be precise. So if you’re interested or know someone who might be, now would be a great time to register. Info and registration link are on my website.

And now, back to the topic of this issue.

• Remembrance Day - Tuesday January 27

I’d like to share some amazing fiber art, made in remembrance of some sad and difficult history.

From the Art and Remembrance website:
Esther Nisenthal Krinitz was 15 in 1942 when the Jews of her Polish village were ordered to report to a nearby train station. She chose to flee with her 13-year-old sister, never to see the rest of her family again.

Decades later, determined to show her daughters the family she had lost, Esther created a series of 36 exquisite works of fabric collage and embroidery—a legacy of love, grief and the sheer force of memory.

Inspired by the art and story of Esther Nisenthal Krinitz, Art and Remembrance uses art and personal narrative to recognize individual courage and resilience, and to foster understanding and compassion for those who experience injustice.

My family has its own set of stories from this time. Seeing the way Esther Krinitz illustrated her stories using my favorite medium of fabric and thread is very special to me.

At the website, you can watch informative videos, learn how to participate in traveling exhibits, find lesson ideas for school teachers, and buy the book showing the full set of embroideries.

• And last but not least: We have another winter quilt! It was submitted by Allison, a new subscriber. She says:

Here is my warmest quilt. I had it made; my skills and machine were not good enough to sew fur. I need to give full credit to Anicia Hibdon of Stockton, CA, who designed, sewed, and hand tied it for me. It is made from fur coats I inherited over the years. The back is a dark brown flannel. It is a treasure to have and I can use the fur coats regularly now.

I’ve never seen a fur quilt before. Just imagine the warm snuggles to be enjoyed under this quilt! Thanks for sharing, Allison.
